The Kingdom, represented by Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) headed by HE Dr. Abdulaziz Alruwais, Governor of CITC, participated in the meeting of UN Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development in New York.

Participants discussed strategic matters related to broadband penetration worldwide, mainly exploring the possibility of connecting nearly half of the world to Broadband, and how countries can join efforts to support these endeavors.

In his remarks, the Governor of CITC highlighted the importance of using innovative methods to finance broadband projects, and how to best leverage regulatory practices towards boosting investment and competitiveness in ICT sector. Alruwais showcased the Kingdom's plans of expanding broadband infrastructures and projects, as they are taking crucial part of the Kingdom's National Transformation Program 2020.


ICT sector in Saudi Arabia has witnessed significant milestones over the past two years, including the raise of radio spectrum allocated to telecommunication and information technology services by more than 300%. More than 2000 5G cell towers were also set, as average mobile networking speeds raised by 450% in the last two years.
