With Participation from More Than 100 Researchers from 17 Countries: Communications, Space and Technology Commission, in Cooperation with IEEE, Crowns Winners of Non-Terrestrial Networks Research Competition

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission, in cooperation with the international Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), crowned the winners of the global research competition held on the sidelines of the International Non-Terrestrial Networks Forum, which the Commission launched with the aim of supporting research and innovation in the field of future telecommunications networks.

The competition saw the participation of 28 scientific papers submitted by more than 100 researchers and academics, belonging to 34 universities and research centers, from 17 countries, with first place awarded to the scientific paper titled (Multi-Mode High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) for Future Wireless Networks), submitted by 4 researchers from Canada and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while second place went to the scientific paper titled (Toward Equitable 6G Access Service via Cloud-Enabled High-Altitude Platform Systems), also submitted by 4 researchers from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and third place went to the scientific paper submitted by 3 researchers from Spain and France, titled (Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles Communications in Integrated Terrestrial and Non-terrestrial Networks).

The winning research addressed the study and analysis of innovative methods for providing broadband telecommunications services in areas where it is difficult to provide these services through the integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial network technologies, and studying a mechanism for developing High-Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) technology to include multiple operating solutions and diverse connectivity services to reduce costs and enhance the quality of services provided. The research also studies designing an analytical framework for providing telecommunications services via High-Altitude Platform Station technology through cloud computing to meet the telecommunications service needs of future technologies, to be adopted in the near future to meet telecommunications service needs.

It should be noted that the Commission's aim in holding the competition is to find innovative solutions that contribute to enabling non-terrestrial networks, which are expected to be the nucleus of sixth-generation telecommunications services in the future, and help develop and diversify the economy; and to work on developing services expected to contribute to bridging the digital divide to achieve equality in enjoying basic telecommunications and information technology services for all the world's population.
