With Prizes Up to SAR 1 Million: Communications, Space and Technology Commission and “Monsha'at” Announce Winning Teams of “IoT Challenge 2022”
The Communications, Space and Technology Commission announced the names of the winners of the IoT Challenge 2022, in its second edition, launched in partnership with the General Commission for Small and Medium Enterprises “Monsha'at,” with prizes reaching SAR 1 million, won by 10 innovative ideas out of more than 800 ideas submitted. The winners were honored at a ceremony attended by His Excellency the Governor of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, and the Governor of the General Commission for Small and Medium Enterprises, Mr. Sami bin Ibrahim Al-Husseini.
His Excellency the Deputy Governor for Information Technology and Emerging Technologies, Mr. Raed Al-Faiz, said in his speech on this occasion: “One of our most notable strategic targets at the Communications, Space and Technology Commission is to support entrepreneurs and empower them to provide new services and products by encouraging technical innovation in various fields through a number of initiatives that contribute to raising the level of supply in the Kingdom's digital market, as well as strengthening the investment and regulatory environment supportive of information technology in general and emerging technologies in particular, in line with market developments at the local, regional and global levels.”
In turn, His Excellency the Deputy Governor of Monsha'at for Entrepreneurship, Mr. Saud Al-Sabhan, affirmed that “Monsha'at” focuses on building a stimulating environment for entrepreneurs and owners of small and medium enterprises by providing a range of services, programs and initiatives, with the aim of supporting the growth and competitiveness of the small and medium enterprises sector through cooperation with its strategic partners in the public and private sectors, locally and internationally, in line with Vision 2030.
At the end of the ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, the two winning teams of the Diamond package, worth SAR 150,000 for each winning team, were announced: “My Farm” team, with an agricultural innovation that enables farmers to fully and easily manage the farm and monitor water levels and soil moisture, and “Salem” team, with an industrial innovation for automating safety monitoring to reduce workplace injuries and accidents.
The Gold package, worth SAR 100,000 for each winning team, was won by “Juz'iyat” team, with an environmental innovation that tracks daily water consumption, and “Tukram” team, with a tourism platform innovation that allows tourists to access the nearest restroom to their location, by using the restrooms of commercial establishments, restaurants and cafes, and “Zivox6” team, with a smart system installed on road infrastructure to facilitate traffic flow and predict problems before they occur, and “Last Mile” team, with an innovation in transportation, a smart box that can be remotely controlled and monitored for the easy receipt of personal shipments.
In the Silver package, worth SAR 75,000 for each winning team, were “Pasj” team, with an industrial innovation, a device fitted to workers' safety vests to secure the work environment, “Token” team, with a tourism innovation that gives tourists interactive sensory and digital experiences while providing reports for tourism management, “Dar' Al-Makhatir” (Risk Prevention) team, with a transportation innovation, a device to measure road hazards and issue alerts, and “Tafani” team, with a transportation innovation supporting the automation of order delivery by providing smart lockers as self-service pickup points within the branch for customers to collect their orders at any time.
It should be noted that the IoT Challenge aims to enable entrepreneurs to design smart solutions, provide innovative products based on Internet of Things technologies, focus on globally trending sectors and activate them locally, raise awareness of IoT technology among those interested and working in commercial, industrial and technology establishments, in addition to increasing the number of local companies in the Saudi market, which contributes to product diversity and serving all sectors.
