To Protect Users and Enhance Reliability: Communications Commission Launches Sender ID Management System Using Blockchain Technology

The Communications and Information Technology Commission launched the Sender Name Management System using blockchain technology, aimed at reducing fraud, raising the reliability of text messages, and using the technology in regulation and governance, on the sidelines of the Digital Technology Forum 2022.

The Commission explained that the system's impact will extend to 34,000 trusted sender names, and will lead to a 66% reduction in service providers' operational burdens, as well as a 60% reduction in the time taken to process requests, in addition to benefiting 20,000 government and private entities.

The Commission noted that managing sender names using blockchain technology will serve 46 million mobile telecommunications service subscriptions, and will also meet the aspirations of 25 providers of local bulk SMS services.

It is noted that the Commission, through its multiple innovative initiatives, seeks to enhance user protection and the reliability of services provided, and to employ various emerging technologies in order to deliver them according to the best standards and the regulatory efficiency it aspires to.
