ITU Secretary-General Praises the Telecommunications and Information Technology Sector in the Kingdom

The Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Mr. Houlin Zhao, praised the Kingdom's efforts and its distinguished initiatives in various fields, including the launch of a new platform to enhance international cooperation in digital fields, noting in this context the efforts of the Communications and Information Technology Commission in the Kingdom, and that the Commission is one of the most advanced regulatory entities for the telecommunications and information technology sector in the world, according to the International Telecommunication Union's classification.

Mr. Zhao also praised the regulatory maturity of the telecommunications and information technology sector in the Kingdom, describing the Kingdom's telecommunications market as the “largest” in the Middle East region. Houlin Zhao also offered his congratulations on the Kingdom's success and excellence in chairing the G20 this year, and its effective and distinguished leadership of the digital agenda, after affirming the importance of promoting emerging and new technologies such as 5G, which is expected to boost the digital economy and contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

This came during the speech of the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union at the virtual international symposium hosted by the Communications and Information Technology Commission in cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on “Enabling Commercial and Innovative Uses of the Frequency Spectrum,” held from the 8th to the 10th of December 2020, with the participation of more than (70) speakers, senior officials and specialists from various government, private and academic entities interested in modern wireless technologies from (20) countries around the world, in an effort to unify global efforts and visions in the field of the frequency spectrum, and activate its role in enhancing digital transformation in the Kingdom and the world.
