National Information Society Committee Holds Its Twenty-First Meeting

Chaired by His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission and Chairman of the National Information Society Committee, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, the National Information Society Committee held its twenty-first meeting at the headquarters of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, with the attendance of 17 Committee members representing a number of ministries and government and private entities, including: the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Media, the Ministry of Finance, the Presidency of State Security, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, the Saudi Telecommunication Engineering Society, and the Council of Saudi Chambers.

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed the activities of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) for its 2019 edition, of which the Kingdom is a Gold Sponsor. The Committee also discussed preparations for participation in the work of this Summit, scheduled to be held during the period from 8-12 April 2019 at ITU headquarters in Geneva.

The meeting also followed up on the proceedings of the 22nd session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD), and reviewed reports of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

It should be noted that the National Information Society Committee seeks to raise the level of public understanding and awareness in support of the directions aimed at transforming the Kingdom into an information society, by expanding the circle of participation to include all members and segments of society, and through internationally highlighting the Kingdom's plans and efforts to achieve this transformation and adopt the Sustainable Development Goals.
