National Information Society Committee Holds Its Fourteenth Meeting

The National Information Society Committee held its fourteenth meeting today, Monday 24/11/1434H, corresponding to 30/09/2013, at the headquarters of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, chaired by His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission and Chairman of the National Information Society Committee, Eng. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Darrab, with the attendance of its members representing a number of ministries, government entities, and the private sector. During the meeting, the activities of UNESCO's Information for All Programme during the previous period were reviewed. A number of activities falling within the Committee's areas of interest were also reviewed, most notably the latest updates on the overall review process of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+10), and the International Telecommunication Union's preparations for its high-level event on reviewing the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society falling within its mandate; in addition to the Kingdom's recent participation in the WSIS Forum 2013, and its receipt of two WSIS Project Prizes, awarded in international recognition of excellence in implementing the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), for the Ministry of Education's project (School Networking) and the Ministry of Higher Education's (Safeer) system. Since the Committee is concerned with following up on the tasks assigned to the entities represented in its membership, some entities presented an overview of their achievements.

It is worth noting that the Committee aims to raise the level of public understanding and awareness in support of the directions aimed at transforming the Kingdom into an information society, as it seeks to devote effort to expanding the circle of participation among all segments of society and advancing the development process in the country and affirming the importance of the vital interaction leading to fulfilling the requirements of transformation into an information society. At the international level, the Committee contributes to highlighting the Kingdom's plans and efforts towards transformation into an information society.
