Kingdom Wins Seat on the ITU Council

Today, at the plenary session of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, currently held in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, the member states of the ITU Council were elected for the next four years, numbering (48) countries out of the Union's (192) member states, with the Kingdom being re-elected to Council membership for the Asia and Australasia region, thereby retaining its seat on the Council.

On this occasion, His Excellency the Minister of Communications and Information Technology extends his congratulations to the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques on this win, which came as a result of the support and backing given to the telecommunications and information technology sector in the Kingdom by the country's leadership, and the elevated standing enjoyed by the Kingdom in the international community. His Excellency also thanked both the Saudi Telecom Company and Etihad Etisalat Company (Mobily), which supported the Kingdom's campaign to run for this seat, as well as all ITU member states that voted for the Kingdom in these elections.

It is worth noting that since the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia became a member of the International Telecommunication Union in 1949, and a member of its Council in 1965, it has been harnessing its capabilities and human expertise to support its activities, and actively participating in its various forums. It enjoys the respect and appreciation of the International Telecommunication Union (the specialized agency for telecommunications and information technology within the United Nations system).
