Kingdom Participates in Meeting of the UN Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development

The Kingdom, represented by His Excellency the Governor of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, participated in the annual meeting of the UN Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development, with the aim of enhancing the contribution of the communications, space and technology sector to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, proposing policies and recommendations to bridge the digital divide, alongside strengthening and developing the digital economy.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States of America, under the theme “Digital Connectivity - An Opportunity for Transformation,” saw the participation of senior officials from various government and industry sectors around the world, who discussed a range of important issues, including the role of investment and financing in bridging the global digital divide and connecting 2.6 billion unconnected people around the world, and the challenges and obstacles in the digital environment.

The Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development is one of the commissions affiliated with the United Nations, co-chaired by His Excellency President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda and businessman Carlos Slim, while His Excellency the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union and His Excellency the Director-General of UNESCO serve as Vice-Chairs of the Commission, and the Commission also includes a number of influential decision-makers in the field of telecommunications and technology and senior officials in the government and industrial sectors from around the world.
