The Kingdom Chairs the Fifth Meeting of the GCC Working Group Preparing for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2023
The Kingdom, represented by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, chaired the meeting of the GCC Working Group preparing for the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-23), held in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, from July 31 to August 3, 2023, at the Commission's headquarters in Riyadh.
The meeting aims to unify positions on the agenda items of the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-23), and to discuss numerous topics such as coordinating the use of frequency bands for terrestrial and space radiocommunication services, in addition to working to enable innovative technologies and make frequency bands available for them.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Engineer Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Abdulqader, Director General of Spectrum Services at the Commission. Contributions submitted by GCC countries were discussed, in addition to alignment on providing frequency bands for modern radio applications, including 5G, high altitude platform stations, and others, as well as coordination on enabling Earth Stations in Motion (ESIM) services via satellites, and promoting innovative radio technologies and enabling license-exempt spectrum uses.
It is noted that the meeting is held periodically as part of the preparatory work for the World Radiocommunication Conference, held every four years, with its proceedings centering on reviewing the Radio Regulations and international treaties governing spectrum uses, and reviewing international communications regulations and treaties according to an agenda determined by the ITU Council.
