Kingdom Wins Award and 7 Certificates of Excellence in WSIS Prizes

The Kingdom, represented by a number of government and private entities, won an award and 7 certificates of excellence in the competition held by the International Telecommunication Union at the World Summit on the Information Society, honoring the best projects that harness telecommunications and information technology in implementing the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society and contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. This raises the Kingdom's tally to (9) awards and (15) certificates of excellence in the WSIS Project Prizes since their launch in 2012.

Among the entities whose projects received awards were the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Saudi Aramco, and Majmaah University and King Saud University. The projects covered a number of vital fields such as licensing, academic education, road safety, blood donation, and environmental protection.

The Communications and Information Technology Commission had previously called on everyone to participate in voting and support these national projects to win these awards, which are subject to a number of criteria determined by the award secretariat, including the number of votes received by each project.

It should be noted that the Kingdom's projects competed against 1,062 projects worldwide in 18 categories covering many pivotal topics and areas, including building trust and security in the use of telecommunications and information technology, e-government, information and communications infrastructure, e-learning and e-health, and the e-environment, among others.
