Kingdom Receives Certificate of Excellence for Its Leading Role in the Success of the UN High-Level Meeting

On Wednesday, 11/06/2014, the outcome documents of the High-Level Meeting on the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society, organized by the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva during the period from 10 to 13 June 2014 in cooperation with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), were adopted. These documents comprise the High-Level Declaration on the follow-up implementation of the World Summit on the Information Society action lines after 10 years since the Summit was held, in addition to the vision for the period beyond 2015, within the framework of the mandates of the participating UN agencies.

The Kingdom is participating in the High-Level Meeting with a specialized delegation headed by His Excellency the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Mohammed Jamil bin Ahmed Mulla, and with the participation of His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Eng. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Darrab, alongside the participation of more than one hundred ministers and high-level representatives from United Nations member states. His Excellency Eng. Mulla noted in his speech delivered at the meeting that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is proud of its active performance in the work of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in its first and second phases, as well as its performance in the Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG) established by the UN Secretary-General, and that the Kingdom continues its ongoing support for the Summit's outcomes through its membership in the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) affiliated with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and its holding of the position of Vice-Chair of the Commission for the Asia region, in addition to its membership on the ITU Council, its chairmanship of the Council's Working Group on International Internet-related Public Policy Issues, and Vice-Chairmanship of the Council's Working Group on WSIS.

On this occasion, a certificate of excellence was presented by the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in its capacity as Vice-Chair of the working group tasked with preparing for the High-Level Meeting, represented by the Director General of International Affairs at the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Eng. Majed bin Mohammed Al-Muzaid, in recognition of its leading and effective role in the success of the meeting.
