Kingdom Participates in Meeting of the UN Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development Held in Rwanda

The Kingdom, represented by His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, participated in the meeting of the UN Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development held in the city of Kigali, Rwanda, to enhance work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through broadband deployment and encouraging countries to adopt national broadband policies to build the future of societies and their development in the economic and social fields.

The Kingdom contributes to the Commission's work as an active member, to build an inclusive digital future for the post-pandemic era and encourage countries to adopt national broadband policies, as well as harnessing telecommunications and information technology to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through broadband deployment, and narrowing the digital divide between countries and providing telecommunications and information technology services for all, contributing to achieving economic and social well-being for peoples, in addition to enhancing digital transformation and developing the digital economy globally.

The Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development is one of the commissions affiliated with the United Nations, co-chaired by His Excellency President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda and businessman Mr. Carlos Slim, while His Excellency the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union and Her Excellency the Director-General of UNESCO serve as Vice-Chairs of the Commission, and the Commission also includes a number of influential decision-makers in the field of telecommunications and information technology and senior officials in the government and industrial sectors.
