Kingdom Participates in the Fifth World Telecommunication/ICT Policy Forum

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated effectively in the work of the Fifth World Telecommunication/ICT Policy Forum, with a delegation headed by His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Eng. Abdullah Al-Darrab, held in Geneva during the period from 3 to 7 Rajab 1434H. The Forum discusses a number of issues related to international public policy on the Internet arising from the resolutions of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference held in Guadalajara, United Mexican States, in 2010. During the conference, the Kingdom was nominated for the position of Vice-Chair of the Fifth Forum, represented by the Director General of International Affairs at the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Eng. Majed bin Mohammed Al-Muzaid, who was endorsed by all participating countries and undertook the duties assigned to him during the forum. The Kingdom also played an active role in the preparatory process for this forum, having submitted three contributions that formed the basis for half of the draft opinions presented for consideration at the forum.

The forum was attended by more than 600 delegates representing 118 member states. The purpose of the World Telecommunication/ICT Policy Forum is to provide a venue for the exchange of views and information among member states and sector members of the Union on issues related to telecommunications policy and regulation arising from the changing telecommunications environment.
