Kingdom Concludes Participation in ITU Telecom World 2015

The Kingdom concluded its successful and effective participation in ITU Telecom World 2015, held in the Hungarian capital Budapest, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Communications and Information Technology Commission, during the period from 12-15 October 2015. The Kingdom's participating pavilion witnessed distinguished interaction and attendance from visitors, especially at the level of official visits, as the Kingdom's pavilion was one of the limited pavilions visited by the Prime Minister of Hungary; in addition to visits by a number of ministers and heads of participating delegations. The Secretary-General of the Union, Mr. Houlin Zhao, praised the role played by the Kingdom in supporting all of the Union's activities and in the field of supporting entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises, which was confirmed by the nomination of 3 institutions participating in the Kingdom's pavilion among the best 15 small and startup institutions out of 90 institutions that participated in the exhibition from around the world, and the Kingdom's winning of two awards at that global event; as inventor Khaled Al-Nasser, incubated by the Badir Program for Technology Incubators, won the award for one of the best five projects for entrepreneurs according to the evaluation of the ministerial judging committee, which is considered the highest and most important award granted at the exhibition, while the Centennial Fund won the Award of Excellence in Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises. The Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Mr. Zhao, presented the winners with these awards in the presence of the Acting Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, His Excellency Eng. Habib bin Khidr Al-Shinqiti, and the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Republic of Hungary, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Abdulhadi Al-Mutrefi, and members of the Saudi delegation participating in that event.

It is worth noting that the Kingdom's pavilion participating in that global event included, under its umbrella, seven entities: the General Investment Commission, the Saudi Aramco Entrepreneurship Center (Wa'ed), the Kafalah Program, the Centennial Fund, the Saudi Credit and Savings Bank, the Badir Program for Technology Incubators, and Tasco (Technology for Satellite Communications) Company. The Kingdom's participation in this important international forum is an extension of the efforts made by the Kingdom, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology with the support of His Excellency Minister Dr. Mohammed Al-Suwayel, and the Communications and Information Technology Commission, to highlight the development and prosperity achieved by the telecommunications and information technology sector in the Kingdom, whether in strong infrastructure, regulatory and legislative foundations, or in the accumulated expertise over the past years, which has contributed to providing advanced, high-quality services. The Kingdom is among the founding countries of ITU Telecom World, which is a global platform for developing telecommunications and information technology innovations for social and economic development through showcasing solutions, exchanging knowledge, and networking.
