Kingdom Chairs Second Arab Meeting to Prepare for the World Telecommunication Development Conference

The Kingdom chaired the second meeting of the Arab Working Group for Preparing for the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-21) of the International Telecommunication Union, held on 17-18 February 2021, with the aim of coordinating and formulating joint Arab positions, and discussing the developments and challenges of telecommunications and information technology development in the Arab region, with the attendance of more than 60 participants representing Arab countries and the Technical Secretariat of the Arab Council of Ministers of Communications and Information, in addition to the participation of observer representatives from the ITU Arab Regional Office and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

The meeting discussed the preparatory work for the conference of interest to the Arab region in order to advance sustainable development and achieve its goals and objectives. The meeting also reviewed the work plan and decisions to be issued by the conference regarding support for Arab countries, the adoption of study questions for the committees affiliated with the development sector and regional initiatives for the Arab region, and other related topics, including providing support for Arab candidacies for positions in the development sector and conference committees.

It is worth noting that the International Telecommunication Union periodically holds the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) every four years, and the next session will be held in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia during 8-19 November 2021.
