Board of Directors of the Communications Commission Commends the Commission's Efforts in Enabling the First Successful 5G Trial Launch

His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission received a letter of thanks from the Commission's Board of Directors for the Kingdom's achievement in being the first to enable the first successful 5G trial launch at live sites in the Middle East and North Africa region, noting that 5G services will have a notable impact in increasing internet speeds, and will also enhance the use of modern applications in the Kingdom such as the Internet of Things, including smart city services, digital homes, connected vehicles, and other applications, achieving prosperity for the digital economy.

The International Telecommunication Union — the United Nations organization specialized in communications and information technology — praised, in a report issued last week, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leadership at the level of the Middle East and North Africa region and its adoption of the latest modern technologies, as a result of the Kingdom being the first to conduct the first successful 5G trial launch at live sites (the latest mobile phone technologies). The report also noted the Kingdom's great interest in broadband and its services.

It is worth noting that the Kingdom, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Communications and Information Technology Commission, has made efforts from an early stage to enable 5G technology in the Kingdom, and for the "Kingdom" to be among the leading and pioneering countries in the early launch of this technology, as the National Working Group for Enabling 5G in the Kingdom was formed to place the Kingdom among the pioneering countries in providing this technology and benefiting from the gains it will achieve, such as smart city applications and the Internet of Things.
