Temporary Disruption of BlackBerry Services in the Kingdom
BlackBerry service subscribers experienced a service disruption starting Monday, 12 Dhu al-Qi'dah 1432H, corresponding to 10/10/2011. Specialists at the Commission continuously followed up on this disruption with local telecommunications service providers and the service's global operator, Research In Motion (RIM), to determine its causes. The company explained in its report to the Commission that the disruption of its services resulted from the failure of a number of its main servers in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina. The company affirmed that it was working hard to gradually resolve this fault. The company informed the Commission that the service was fully restored on Thursday, 15 Dhu al-Qi'dah 1432H, corresponding to 13/10/2011, and that it continues to monitor the situation continuously to ensure the stability of the services.
Out of concern for subscribers' rights, the Commission coordinated with telecommunications service providers to compensate BlackBerry service subscribers for the duration of the service disruption.
