Governor of the Communications Commission: E-Commerce Is One of the Strategic Objectives of the National Transformation Program 2020
His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, highlighted the support for the e-commerce ecosystem in the Kingdom, which is one of the strategic objectives of the National Transformation Program 2020 supporting the achievement of Saudi Vision 2030 through developing the communications and information technology sector and creating an environment that attracts and stimulates investors. Al-Ruwais noted the growing e-commerce market in the Kingdom, which is the largest market in the Middle East and North Africa region, with the value of commercial transactions reaching about SAR 30 billion.
His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission affirmed the Commission's commitment to its responsibilities to maintain the advanced competitive level in e-commerce, in partnership with the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, Saudi Post Corporation, the General Commission for Small and Medium Enterprises, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority, Saudi Customs, the Digital Transformation Unit, and relevant entities, to enhance work on developing the sector's infrastructure and entrepreneurship, enable innovation in advanced technologies, and facilitate the regulation of digital investment and the knowledge-based economy in a manner consistent with Saudi Vision 2030.
His Excellency Dr. Al-Ruwais extended the highest expressions of thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and his trusted Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz – may God preserve them – for the support and assistance the sector enjoys, and for the growth, strength, and prosperity the Kingdom is witnessing, praying that God preserve our nation's security and stability, and grant our wise government continued glory and empowerment.
This came during the opening of the Annual Communications and Information Technology Forum 2017, held under the title "E-Commerce in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," with the participation of the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority, Saudi Post Corporation, the General Commission for Small and Medium Enterprises, Saudi Customs, the Digital Transformation Unit, e-commerce experts and investors in this field, and providers of logistics, payment, and communications and information services.
