Communications and Information Technology Commission Calls for Voting for Saudi Projects

Today, the Communications and Information Technology Commission called on the public to participate in voting for Saudi projects via the International Telecommunication Union's website (www.itu.int/net4/wsis/prizes/2018), in support of projects submitted by a number of entities in the Kingdom competing for the United Nations awards for World Summit on the Information Society 2018 projects, which consist of 18 categories, with the winners to be announced during the WSIS Forum scheduled to be held from March 19-23, 2018, in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Commission explained that the Kingdom is competing in the 2018 edition of the awards with 21 projects out of 600 projects worldwide submitted by (14) entities (Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Commerce and Investment, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor and Social Development, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Communications and Information Technology Commission, Saudi Commission for Standards, Metrology and Quality, Capital Market Commission, General Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, Tatweer Educational Services Company), adding that winning the awards is based on several criteria set by the award secretariat, including the number of votes each project receives.

The Commission said that these awards are presented within the United Nations system and organized by the International Telecommunication Union, which is the United Nations specialized agency in the field of communications and information technology, and are used to select the best projects that have harnessed communications and information technology to implement the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

It is worth noting that, since the awards began, the Kingdom has won 7 awards and 6 certificates of distinction in previous editions of the WSIS Project Prizes.
