The ITU Council Members have unanimously appointed the Kingdom as Vice-Chair of the ITU Council in 2026

Saudi Arabia has been appointed as Vice-Chair of the ITU Council, represented by Eng. Mansour Alqurashi, the Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Partnerships at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Acting Deputy Governor for International Affairs and Partnerships at CST. This followed the conclusion of the 2026 Council session held in Geneva, Switzerland

This appointment reflects the international community’s trust in the Kingdom’s active role and its contributions to advancing the objectives of the ITU, as well as its leadership in shaping global digital policies and regulatory frameworks.

The appointment also builds on the Kingdom’s longstanding and influential role internationally, having been a member of the ITU Council since 1965. The Council is the highest authority of the ITU after the Plenipotentiary Conference. It is responsible for overseeing the Union’s activities between conferences, discussing all matters related to its sectors, and issuing the necessary decisions.

The ITU Council comprises 48 member states out of 190, and is responsible for guiding the Union’s work, overseeing the implementation of its policies and budget, approving operational and financial plans, monitoring programs, and providing recommendations on general policies to develop the sector, which makes it a central mechanism for ensuring the efficiency and continuity of the Union’s work.
