Digital Regulations Academy Holds "Digital Transformation and Regulation in Somalia" Program to Build Somali National Capabilities and Enhance Regulatory Maturity

The Digital Regulations Academy, affiliated with the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, held the "Digital Transformation and Regulation in Somalia" program, in cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union, which aims to develop Somali national capabilities in the fields of digital transformation and regulatory maturity, and enable government institutions and the private sector to adopt advanced regulatory models that support the implementation of Somalia's National Digital Transformation Strategy.

The training program was held at two levels, with the first phase dedicated to decision-makers and senior leaders from ministers, their deputies, and directors general, while the second phase targeted technicians and specialists from Somalia's Ministry of Communications and Technology, the National Communications Authority, the private sector, universities, and civil society organizations concerned with digital transformation.

The program, attended by more than 45 trainees over five days, included a series of training sessions and interactive discussions addressing the concept of digital transformation and the importance of institutional governance, reviewing Somalia's digital strategy and its alignment with regional and international frameworks, analyzing the level of regulatory maturity in Somalia, and identifying regulatory challenges, alongside discussing digital regulation frameworks, cybersecurity, and data protection, and introducing regulatory technologies (RegTech) and modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain, and the program concluded with the preparation of a regulatory roadmap supporting sustainable digital transformation in Somalia.

This program comes as part of the Commission's efforts to transfer the Kingdom's experience in regulatory maturity and enhance cooperation and exchange of expertise, and support developing countries in developing their regulatory and digital capabilities, contributing to building effective and sustainable digital systems at the regional and international levels.
