Organized by the ITU, CST Concludes its Participation in the 2nd edition of the Space Sustainability Forum 2025

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) concluded its participation in the Space Sustainability Forum, held by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva on 7-8 October 2025. The forum aims to keep up with the sector’s rapid development, as it serves as a global dialogue platform bringing together leaders, experts, and stakeholders from regulatory bodies and Space and Satellite agencies. The forum featured key discussions that focused on managing satellite constellations, advancing exploration from Low Earth, and achieving an effective Space and Spectrum Situational Awareness (S3A), and sustainability of Space radiocommunications systems.

Represented by General Manager of Space Sector Development, Dr. Khalid Alshathri, CST participated in the “Latest Developments in Space Services” panel discussion, which addressed various topics including; the Space sector rapid development in recent years due to the adoption of advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), the role of regulators in protecting users and ensuring fair competition, leveraging Space technologies to address global challenges, and the integration of the Space, Communications, and Technology sectors to serve humanity.

During the forum, the General Manager of Radio Spectrum Planning, Abdulhadi Alharthi, joined the “Direct to Device” panel discussion, it explored the evolution of the market and business models, highlighting how D2D technology is reshaping connectivity opportunities, Spectrum use, and international cooperation. The discussion also addressed the challenges of living among various communication technologies and emphasized the importance of global harmonization in shaping regulatory policies. Additionally, it examined strategies for ensuring the responsible growth of Space-based services in alignment with the goals of spectrum and orbital sustainability.

CST’s participation stems from its ongoing efforts in shaping the regulatory future of the Space sector, it also participated in the 1st edition in 2024. CST held the first Space Debris Conference in partnership with the ITU and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), seeking to raise global awareness about the challenges posed by space debris, and emphasizing CST’s active role alongside ITU members in advancing the Space economy and achieving SDGs. While leveraging its expertise and human resources in the communications, space and technology sectors to implement its initiatives that support sustainability and enable the sector.
