Frequency Spectrum Advisory Council Meeting Held

A meeting of the Frequency Spectrum Advisory Council was held at the headquarters of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, attended and participated in by council members from experts and specialists in the field of frequency spectrum and wireless technologies, aiming to support decision-making related to the frequency spectrum, and provide support and advice to the Commission through research work and scientific papers.

In addition to contributing to enabling and supporting emerging radio technologies in the Kingdom, and providing technical support regarding topics proposed for study within the study cycle of the Radiocommunication Sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R), enhancing the Kingdom's leadership at the international level.

During the meeting, the council's work plan for 2025 was reviewed and discussed, which included preparing studies and research publications aiming to enable spectrum sharing in a number of frequency bands, and examining the possibility of coexistence between different radio applications and services, and holding training programs targeting all national entities using the frequency spectrum in the Kingdom.

The meeting also discussed a number of important topics, most notably developing the mechanism for calculating the Spectrum Utilization Index, aiming to measure the efficiency of frequency use in the Kingdom for a number of radio services, in addition to studying the coexistence between direct device-to-device satellite communication systems (D2D) in the frequency bands allocated to international mobile telecommunications systems (IMT), through which the optimal mechanism for enabling coexistence between these systems is determined.
