"Meqyas" Report Reveals the Most Improved Companies in Internet Services Provided During the Third Quarter of 2019

The Communications and Information Technology Commission revealed the most improved companies in providing internet services in the Kingdom during the third quarter of 2019, as part of the "Meqyas" report indicators, which aims to monitor the general level of internet service quality provided in the Kingdom, and the extent of its improvement or decline, on a quarterly basis.

According to measurements made by internet users in the Kingdom through the "Meqyas" application (www.meqyas.sa) on mobile networks, Saudi Telecom Company (STC) achieved the highest average mobile internet download speed at 45.4 megabits per second, and also achieved the best improvement rate reaching 22% compared to the previous quarter, while the average mobile internet download speed for Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) reached 38.8 megabits per second, with an improvement rate of 9.9%. As for Saudi Mobile Telecommunications Company (Zain), its average mobile internet download speed witnessed a decline, reaching 32.4 megabits per second, with a decrease rate of 1.5%.

Regarding YouTube video streaming quality, the "Meqyas" report showed that the highest proportion of what is streamed via YouTube in the Kingdom through mobile internet networks and fixed internet networks is done in Full HD resolution, at 80% of what is streamed via Mobily's networks, 79% via STC's networks, and 68% via Zain's networks.

It is noted that the Commission launched the "Meqyas" initiative in the first quarter of 2018, aiming to monitor the quality of internet usage experience in the Kingdom, seeking to identify possible areas for improvement and elevate internet service quality, and to enhance competitiveness among companies providing services in a way that serves users' interests.
