In "Meqyas" Second Quarter Report.. CITC Reveals Operator Speeds and Performance of Top Games and Social Media Applications in the Kingdom

The Communications and Information Technology Commission launched today, Monday, the quarterly report on internet speeds and speed of access to digital content in the Kingdom

"Meqyas" for the second quarter of 2020, which included comparisons between operator speeds in the Kingdom and data on download and upload speeds, and a ranking of the best operators in each region of the Kingdom, and other indicators on the performance of the most used applications and games in the Kingdom.

The Kingdom recorded a rise in mobile speeds above the global average, with download speed in the Kingdom reaching 66.54 megabits per second, while the estimated global data download average is 34.67 megabits per second. Zain topped the list of companies in average fixed internet speeds at the download level, recording rates of 103.25 megabits per second, while Saudi Telecom Company STC came in first place among mobile communications service providers, with a download speed of 66.23 megabits per second.

The report included the most prominent indicators of 5G network deployment, noting that the governorates where the 5G network is available reached 35 governorates, with Zain topping the list of companies with coverage in 27 governorates, while Saudi Telecom Company STC came in first place in terms of mobile 5G download speed.

On the games and applications indicators front, the quarterly report revealed statistics related to the performance of the top 5 most-used social media applications in the Kingdom and the top 5 video conferencing games and applications, reviewing operator performance in each application in terms of access and browsing speeds.

The Commission said that one of the objectives of issuing the quarterly report on internet speeds and speed of access to digital content in the Kingdom "Meqyas" is to enhance competitiveness among operators to provide the best services to users, adding that this report would also enhance market transparency through data and indicators, and enable investors and interested parties to view market performance indicators in the Kingdom.
