As Part of Its Bid for Membership on the ITU Council.. the Kingdom Hosts a Dinner for Participating Countries' Delegations

As part of its bid for membership on the Council of the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Communications and Information Technology Commission, held a reception in honor of the heads of delegations participating in the events of the World Telecommunication Conference held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 29 Jumada al-Awwal to 10 Jumada al-Thani 1435H.

In the presence of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Bishr, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the United Arab Emirates, and a number of heads of delegations and members of countries, His Excellency the Commission's Governor, Engineer Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Darrab, delivered a speech reviewing the contributions the Kingdom has made to the International Telecommunication Union since joining as a member of the Union in 1949, and a member of its Council since 1965, noting that the Kingdom is proud of the role it has continued to play at the regional and international levels in supporting the Union's work, and explaining that the Kingdom's sense of its responsibility, and fulfillment of its commitment toward this organization, has prompted the Kingdom to seek candidacy for a seat on the Union's Council in the elections scheduled to be held later this year at the Plenipotentiary Conference held in the city of Busan, South Korea.

Al-Darrab affirmed that supporting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's re-nomination empowers the Kingdom to continue providing supportive contributions to the work of the Union's three sectors: development, standardization, and radio, through its position on the Union's Council.

It is noted that the Kingdom has previously chaired the Council of the International Telecommunication Union twice, and thanks to the trust it has enjoyed from the organization's member states, the Kingdom has retained its membership on the Union's Council since 1965, being re-nominated in every electoral cycle since that date.
