In Response to User Needs and in Line with Global Trends: CITC Announces the Start of Making Internet Communications Applications Available

The official spokesperson for the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Mr. Adel Abu-Hemed, confirmed today the lifting of the block on all applications that provide video and voice communication features over the internet meeting the regulatory requirements in the Kingdom, starting from Thursday, 1 Muharram 1439H at 12:00 am.

The official spokesperson added that applications meeting the regulatory requirements will be available to all communications service users, including, for example, FaceTime, Snapchat, Skype, Line, Telegram, Tango, and other applications, except for those very limited applications not meeting the regulatory requirements.

He affirmed that this decision comes in line with the modern trends and directions in the communications and information technology sector, and that reliance on data revenues (providing internet) and value-added services is the global path and trend that operators in the Kingdom should follow. He added that the Commission is working with all stakeholders to provide all communications subscribers in the Kingdom with the finest services that meet their aspirations and satisfy their needs.
