In Realization of Saudi Vision 2030, CITC Signs the First High-Speed Wireless Broadband Projects Contract for Remote Areas
In realization of Saudi Vision 2030, and as part of the National Transformation Program 2020 initiatives related to the communications and information technology sector, which aim to develop the sector and enhance digital infrastructure, and provide high-speed broadband services to all regions of the Kingdom, His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, signed today the contract for the first high-speed wireless broadband projects for remote areas in the Kingdom with the Chairman of the Board of Saudi Mobile Telecommunications Company (Zain), His Highness Prince Nayef bin Sultan bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Kabeer, after the project was put out to competition among companies qualified to provide communications services in the Kingdom.
On this occasion, His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission extended thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Crown Prince, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense -may God preserve them- for their unlimited support in spreading prosperity and flourishing for this nation and its people, noting the care and support enjoyed by the communications and information technology sector in serving citizens and facilitating their transactions.
His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission explained that this project comes as part of the plan to expand the deployment of high-speed wireless broadband services in remote areas, which is one of the National Transformation Program 2020 initiatives for the communications and information technology sector that has entered the implementation phase in realization of Saudi Vision 2030.
Al-Ruwais noted that this project aims to provide service to more than 140,000 citizens and residents in centers, villages, and hamlets belonging to (13) governorates including (Al Majma'ah and Rumah) governorates in Riyadh Region, and (Khafji, Hafr Al-Batin, and Qaryat Al-Ulya) governorates in the Eastern Province, as well as (Qurayyat, Dumat Al-Jandal, Sakaka, and Tabarjal) governorates in Al-Jouf Region, in addition to (Al-Uwayqilah, Rafha, Turaif, and Ar'ar) governorates in the Northern Borders Region.
It is worth noting that the high-speed wireless broadband projects, which will be launched successively, aim to cover 70% of homes in remote areas by the end of 2020.
