Governor of Al-Jouf Region Receives the Governor of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, and Witnesses the Signing of an Agreement to Adopt Smart Technologies in Agriculture

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Al-Jouf Region, received at his office in the Emirate today, His Excellency the Governor of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, and his accompanying delegation of Commission leaders, and officials from telecom service providers stc, Mobily, and Zain Saudi Arabia.

His Highness witnessed the signing of an agreement to adopt smart technologies in agriculture in Al-Jouf Region between "Million Tree Press Factory" and "Bustan Rama Company," aiming to create a model for a smart central farm, stimulate the adoption of smart agriculture technologies in the region, and achieve digital sustainability, and this will also increase production and raise product quality, as well as secure the optimal use of natural resources, in addition to achieving the sustainability of agricultural activities, in line with the sustainable development goals through forming partnerships to achieve the goals, responsible consumption, sustainable cities and communities, and innovation and infrastructure.

The smart farm will feature vertical and precision farming supported by emerging technologies, where, when comparing the differences on a farm of 1,000 square meters, it is expected that a traditional farm consumes 611 cubic meters of water for agricultural production not exceeding 34 kilograms in weight, while a smart farm consumes 18 cubic meters to produce 176 kilograms of the same agricultural product, thus raising production by more than 500% while saving up to 97% of water.

His Highness was briefed on the communications and technology services report for the region and the most important achievements and qualitative leaps in this field, and the Commission's roles in enhancing them in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

His Excellency Dr. Al-Tamimi reviewed during the reception the performance indicators of the communications sector, and the ways to raise the level of communications and technology services in all governorates and centers of Al-Jouf Region, in a way that ensures improved service quality and supports enabling digital transformation.

His Highness affirmed the importance of combining efforts to establish a solid digital infrastructure that allows for providing integrated services to citizens, residents, and visitors of the region, and keeping pace with developments and modern technologies at the local, regional, and international levels, and providing job opportunities for the nation's sons and daughters in the technical field.

For his part, the Governor of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission thanked His Highness the Governor of the Region for his direct support and continuous follow-up of projects and initiatives related to the communications and technology system, in pursuit of providing high-quality services to citizens.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor of the Emirate Hussein Al Sultan, His Highness's Special Advisor and General Supervisor of the Vision Realization Office at the Emirate Dr. Mohammed Al-Sinani, and Director General of Project Coordination and Follow-up Administration at the Emirate Ibrahim Al-Saeed.
