Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union Visits the Communications and Information Technology Commission

His Excellency the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Mr. Houlin Zhao, visited the Communications and Information Technology Commission today, and was received by Engineer Habib bin Khidr Al-Shanqeeti, Acting Governor of the Commission, and a number of Commission officials.

This is His Excellency the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union's first visit to the Kingdom since assuming his position last January. This interest in the Kingdom is due to its historic standing in the Union's development, as well as its prominent role in the International Telecommunication Union since joining as a member of its Council in 1965. Since then, it has continued to harness its capabilities and human expertise to support the Union's activities in a way that achieves the Kingdom's interests, and actively participates in its various forums to enhance regional and international cooperation and solidarity in this vital field.

The Kingdom has held the position of Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau at the Union, and several positions in its conferences, meetings, and working groups, and continues to hold other positions, either as chairman or vice chairman in many important committees at the International Telecommunication Union, which is the United Nations specialized agency for the communications and information technology sector.
