CITC Governor: Unprecedented Developmental Progress Affirms the Nation's Leadership on All Fronts
His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, on behalf of himself and the Commission's staff, extended the highest congratulations and greetings to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, his Trustworthy Crown Prince, and the Saudi people, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the allegiance to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz -may God preserve him- and his assumption of the reins of power in the Kingdom.
His Excellency Dr. Al-Tamimi said that this dear anniversary arrives as the nation continues its pioneering developmental journey across all sectors in light of the goals of our ambitious Vision 2030, which has enhanced the Kingdom's global standing, and recorded exceptional successes that have been praised and celebrated by international institutions.
His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission added that the support and care that the communications and information technology sector in the Kingdom enjoys from the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Trustworthy Crown Prince -may God preserve them both- has placed the sector in a leading position among communications and information technology sectors worldwide, noting in this context what the sector has witnessed over 5 years of major developmental leaps, as the size of the communications and information technology market in the Kingdom reached (63) billion riyals, making it the largest telecommunications market in the Middle East and North Africa.
His Excellency Dr. Al-Tamimi pointed out that the leadership's interest in the sector has placed it in a position of precedence and leadership globally, citing in this context the Kingdom's precedence among the first countries to launch 5G, being the first in the Middle East and North Africa region, with the number of communications towers supporting 5G technologies reaching more than 3,000 towers, while the total frequency spectrum allocated for communications services rose from (260) to (1,110) megahertz, placing the Kingdom in second place among G20 countries.
His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission revealed that the communications and information technology infrastructure in the Kingdom today is witnessing unprecedented qualitative progress, which is reflected in the internet usage rate among the Kingdom's population reaching more than 93%, and the average mobile internet download speed rising from (6) to (46.90) megabits per second, while the total number of mobile communications service subscriptions reached 50 million subscriptions, with a penetration rate exceeding 149% of the population.
At the international level, His Excellency Dr. Al-Tamimi affirmed the Kingdom's leading position in international institutions related to the communications and information technology sector, pointing to the classification of the Kingdom's communications regulator among the most mature regulators globally, and the naming of the largest UN hall in Geneva after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Kingdom's re-election as a member of the Council of the International Telecommunication Union among 48 countries out of 193.
Dr. Al-Tamimi concluded his statement by saying that in this blessed era, the Kingdom is moving toward the future with full confidence and capability, achieving qualitative developmental leaps, thanks to the care and attention that all sectors of the state enjoy from our wise government -may God support it-, praying to the Almighty to preserve for this nation its leadership and people, and to perpetuate upon us the blessings of security, safety, prosperity, and flourishing.
