CITC Governor Participates in the Opening of the WSIS Forum 2018

His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, participated today in the opening of the World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS Forum 2018), held from 02-06 Rajab 1439H, as the Kingdom is a strategic partner in achieving the goals of the World Summit on the Information Society and the related sustainable development goals, and a key player in promoting a culture of excellence and creativity in everything related to the communications and information technology sector at the international level.

In his speech at the opening of the summit, His Excellency Dr. Al-Ruwais said that the Kingdom has been concerned with developing the information society and enabling digital transformation, and has made every effort to invest in its human and financial resources, and has raced against time to achieve leadership in this field through Saudi Vision 2030. He added that the Fourth Industrial Revolution we are witnessing today will be a key enabler in achieving Saudi Vision 2030, and the components of the Fourth Industrial Revolution will contribute to implementing many of the Vision's initiatives and projects, including the construction of the smart city of "NEOM," where the number of robots will exceed the number of humans, and which will host a package of modern technologies such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence, smart transportation systems, and others.

During the forum's opening ceremony, the entities that won awards in the 18 categories were announced, including the Ministry of Education, which won the Business Award for its Human Resources Self-Service System, and the Ministry of Education and Tatweer Educational Services Company, which received two Certificates of Excellence, raising the Kingdom's total to (8) awards and (8) certificates of excellence in the World Summit on the Information Society Project Prizes since its launch in 2012.

On this occasion, His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Chairman of the National Information Society Committee, congratulated the Ministry of Education and Tatweer Educational Services Company, praising the efforts of all Saudi government and private entities participating in showcasing their efforts, which come within the framework of achieving Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Program.

It is noted that the WSIS Forum is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), where more than 100 discussion sessions and workshops, and 10 high-level sessions covering a number of topics related to the summit's outcomes, will be held during the forum.
