CITC Governor Heads the Kingdom's Delegation and Delivers a Speech at the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2010

His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Dr. Abdulrahman bin Ahmed Al-Jaafari, headed the Saudi delegation participating in the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2010, held from May 24 to June 4, 2010 in the city of Hyderabad, India. The conference is attended by 1,250 participants from among the world's top information and communication technology policymakers, including government delegates, ministers, ambassadors, and representatives from the private sector, alongside regional and international organizations. The conference is organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in cooperation with the Indian government and India's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. It aims to determine priorities related to the development of communications and information and communication technologies (ICT) around the world, taking into account contributions submitted by member states and sector members of the International Telecommunication Union, and to adopt the Hyderabad Action Plan, which defines the future of the telecommunication development sector's activities over the next four years.

In his speech at the conference, His Excellency explained that this occasion holds special importance as it represents an opportunity to showcase the Kingdom's experience regarding the regulation and liberalization of the communications and information technology sector and its achievements in this regard, affirming that the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia gives special attention to the communications and information technology sector and the information society, and works to harness it to serve society and other developmental sectors, given its effective and influential role in this regard; and based on this came the Kingdom's support for every effort made in this field, and its diligent pursuit of promoting regional and international cooperation and solidarity in this vital field. He noted that the Kingdom is among the active countries in the International Telecommunication Union and is a member of its Council, and a supporter of the activities of its various sectors, foremost among them the Union's Development Sector, headed by a son of the nation, Mr. Sami Al-Basheer Al-Morshid, affirming continued support for the Union and its activities, especially in the field of telecommunications development in developing and least developed countries, as well as studies and research related to persons with special needs, in order to achieve the best results regarding the spread of this vital sector's services and diversity of its quality.
