Deputy Governor of the Communications Commission for Regulation and Competition: The Kingdom is first in IPv6 implementation indicators at the Arab and Middle East regional level

His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, Deputy Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission for Regulatory and Competition Affairs, today opened, at the Commission's headquarters in Riyadh, a workshop on the implementation of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) with the participation of specialists from communications and information technology service providers in the Kingdom, in cooperation with RIPE NCC.

Dr. Al-Tamimi said that the Kingdom, represented by the Commission, has been making great and continuous efforts to support the spread of IPv6 in the Kingdom - from an early stage - as the Commission formed a special national task force on this subject (Saudi IPv6 Task Force) since 2008 to address the depletion of the current protocol's (IPv4) addresses, by working to raise readiness and expand the use of this new version of the protocol (IPv6), adding that the Kingdom is first at the Arab and Middle East regional level with an adoption rate for this version exceeding 15% of internet users in the Kingdom.

It is worth noting that Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the new version of internet addresses (IP Addresses), which provides a very large number of addresses enabling users and devices to access the internet network.
