Chaired by His Excellency the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the Board of Directors of "The Communications Commission" Holds Its Regular Meeting

The Board of Directors of the Communications and Information Technology Commission held its regular meeting, chaired by His Excellency the Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of the Commission's Board of Directors, Eng. Abdullah bin Amer Al-Swaha, and attended by His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission and Vice Chairman of the Board, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, along with the honorable Board members.

In opening the Board meeting, His Excellency the Minister, Eng. Al-Swaha, commended the great support and continuous care enjoyed by the communications and information technology sector in the Kingdom from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his trustworthy Crown Prince — may God protect them both — as the sector in the Kingdom has come to occupy a leading global position, recording qualitative leaps in international report indicators, most notably the Kingdom coming second among G20 countries in the total allocation of frequency bands for mobile communications services, third place among G20 countries in technical governance, advancing 16 places in broadband network penetration, and issuing the first Internet of Things license at the level of the Middle East and North Africa region, in addition to what the sector has achieved as a promising market and an attractive investment environment around the world.

The Board also reviewed a number of topics on the agenda, including the Commission's strategy emanating from the communications and information technology sector strategy, which aims to enhance competition in the sector, support the enablement of emerging technologies, develop the sector, in addition to protecting users of communications services and beneficiaries of postal services, in addition to developments related to the regulation of the communications and information technology sector, and the postal services sector, and adopted the necessary recommendations in this regard.

It is worth noting that the communications and information technology sector strategy includes three pillars: preparing the digital infrastructure to support mega-projects and accelerate digital transformation in various sectors, developing capabilities and talents in the communications and information technology sector by increasing localization and raising women's participation, in addition to stimulating innovation and investment in the technology sector and maximizing local content.
