Communications, Space and Technology Commission signs a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property to launch an initiative for intellectual protection of local software and the technology industry

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission signed a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, with the aim of cooperating and working to launch an initiative for the intellectual protection of local software and the technology industry in the Kingdom, and integration between the two parties in a manner that serves the public interest according to each party's jurisdiction, in addition to enhancing and empowering the growth of the technology sector.

The memorandum was signed by His Excellency the Deputy Governor of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission for Information Technology and Emerging Technologies, Mr. Raed Al-Fayez, while it was signed on behalf of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property by His Excellency the Vice President of Intellectual Property Policies and Partnerships, Eng. Sami Al-Sudais.

The memorandum seeks to enable companies under the jurisdiction of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission to register intellectual rights for local software and innovative technology products. The memorandum also included building a sustainable solution for registering intellectual property for software and technology products, and cooperation between the two entities to build an effective plan to educate and raise awareness in the technology sector and research and innovation centers about the mechanism for intellectual protection of software and innovative technology products.

It is noted that the Communications, Space and Technology Commission is responsible for regulating the communications, space, and technology sector in the Kingdom, as well as monitoring, following up, and benefiting from developments in the sector's technologies and services, while the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property is the entity responsible for regulating fields of intellectual property in the Kingdom, supporting, developing, sponsoring, and advancing it in accordance with international best practices.
