The Communications, Space and Technology Commission issued the first comprehensive analytical survey study of the digital content platforms market in the Kingdom during 2022, aiming to highlight the Commission's regulatory role in enabling platforms and enhancing the transparency of their market data and the development of their services, contributing to the growth of the digital economy's local product in the Kingdom. The study also seeks to provide data showing investors current market trends and future expectations, and to enable measurement of the development and spread of platform services in the Kingdom.
The Commission noted that the study covered all administrative regions of the Kingdom, with a sample size of 10,500 participants, and the results covered the digital content platforms market for video, audio, gaming, and advertising in the Kingdom. The data also highlights the development of services through figures and percentages that tracked the spread of digital content services and the ease of access for various age groups, as well as tracking users' preferences, habits, and behaviors toward digital platforms, and shows the diversity of content reception and consumption methods.
The study showed that the average daily time spent watching digital video platforms reached 1.55 hours, that 99.9% of individuals watch short video clips, 89.8% of individuals share them, and 78.8% watch movies and series online.
The study revealed that 98.9% of individuals listen to audio clips online, with the average daily time spent listening reaching 1.10 hours, and that 99.5% of individuals use smartphones to listen to audio clips, while the percentage of those who share or have them shared with others reaches 69.0%.
In the field of online gaming, the study showed that the spread rate of digital online games reached 90.8%, with an average daily time spent playing of 1.29 hours, that 99.7% of players use smartphones for gaming, and that the age group most engaged in online gaming, at 98.5%, are those aged 10-19.
On the digital advertising market front, the study revealed that 99.3% of individuals receive digital advertisements through smartphones, while 17.7% of individuals use digital ad-blocking tools, while those whose purchasing behavior and habits are influenced by the digital advertisements they receive online reach 80.7%, and 45% of individuals make purchases based on advertisements they receive online.
The study also included various figures and statistics covering paid and unpaid satellite channels, video content streaming platforms and live streaming platforms, as well as listening to digital audio platforms and types of digital audio clips, in addition to esports participation platforms and the most popular team and individual games, and the impact of digital advertisements via social media platforms.
