Communications, Space and Technology Commission announces stc's win in the spectrum auction for non-terrestrial networks

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission announced the final results of the spectrum auction
in the 2100 MHz band for non-terrestrial networks (NTN), which began on November 30, 2022, and which aims to stimulate the deployment of non-terrestrial networks and enhance investments in them, provide advanced services to end users, and confirm the Kingdom's leadership in enabling these networks. The Commission explained that the auction lasted 3 days, during which there were (32) bidding rounds through which bids were made on two frequency channels with a total bandwidth of 60 MHz among four companies qualified to participate in the auction according to previously published announcements, and the auction concluded with Saudi Telecom Company
stc winning both channels, which are targeted at covering the Kingdom's airspace with air-to-ground internet (A2G) services, and providing mobile satellite services (MSS) in all regions of the Kingdom, with the winning company being responsible for providing services to users, and it may also enlist or cooperate with other specialized companies in the field. It is worth noting that this auction is the first of its kind globally for non-terrestrial networks, reinforcing the Commission's efforts to spread these technologies in the Kingdom and cover underserved and remote areas with terrestrial networks, and provide the best options for users there.
