"Communications Commission" reviews the Kingdom's experience in regulating the postal sector with the Communications Authority of Oman
The Communications and Information Technology Commission held a workshop via video call with the Communications Authority of the Sultanate of Oman, to review the Kingdom's experience in regulating the postal sector since the Commission assumed the tasks of regulating it in 2019. The Commission also gave a comprehensive presentation on the regulatory experience that led to the regulation of parcel delivery companies and delivery applications, and the most important services and processes that led to achieving the Commission's targets in the sector.
The Commission highlighted its enabling roles for the postal sector, represented by issuing regulatory documents for the sector and beneficiary protection procedures, and its care in achieving and adopting best global practices in the field, in addition to proposing, supporting, and encouraging innovative services in the sector, as well as reviewing government policies affecting the sector and developing service provider standards.
The Commission addressed the stages of enhancing the experience, from completing service improvement processes based on studies, opinion polls, and communication with stakeholders, to studying best practices and requesting public consultation before issuing regulatory documents and holding workshops and meetings, as well as following self-assessment of services and processes through service ranking indices and preparing periodic reports, leading to the implementation of improvement projects, which included studying capacity, updating regulations, and monitoring the flow of parcels with service providers.
The Commission shared with officials of the Communications Authority of Oman the governance mechanisms it followed to activate delivery applications, and how they led to making applications one of the main and important sectors to meet beneficiaries' needs through the experimental regulatory

environment, in addition to the regulatory frameworks that preserve the rights of all parties and led to facilitating registration processes with it and monitoring compliance and integration with relevant systems and regulations.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the Commission reviewed aspects of the excellence of the delivery applications platform and what it achieved during the coronavirus pandemic, and its winning of the Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award as one of the best technical projects distinguished by creativity and innovation, focusing on the results of the spread of postal services that covered more than 250 cities and governorates through 56 applications registered with the Communications and Information Technology Commission.
