Communications and Information Technology Commission participates in the second Global Forum on Emergency Telecommunications (GET-2016)

The Communications and Information Technology Commission participated, with a delegation headed by His Excellency Governor Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, in the second Global Forum on Emergency Telecommunications (GET-2016) under the theme "Saving Lives," under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister, and in the presence of the Minister of State for Council of Ministers Affairs and Acting Minister of Electricity and Water, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Al-Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The forum is an international platform for discussing international issues related to emergency telecommunications policy and disaster risk reduction. The forum addressed topics of disaster preparedness, the "Smart Sustainable Development Model" initiative, the role of partnerships and financing, as well as country case studies and new developments in the field of communications technology and innovation.

On the sidelines of the forum's activities, His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Ruwais and His Excellency Engineer Salem Al-Uthaina, Chairman and CEO of the Kuwaiti Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority, discussed matters related to the communications and information technology sector in the two brotherly countries. Dr. Al-Ruwais also met with His Excellency the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Mr. Houlin Zhao, and Mr. Brahima Sanou, Director of the Union's Development Bureau, and discussed with them ways to enhance cooperation in this vital field and the main tasks of the International Telecommunication Union, and its ways of supporting and developing the sector.

It is expected that the results adopted at the "GET-2016" forum will provide a strategic vision for the participants, and contribute to increasing knowledge and enhancing the role that participating entities can play in giving communications and information technology a pivotal role in disaster management and mitigating its effects.

It is noted that the Kingdom has been a member of the administration of the International Telecommunication Union since 1965, which is the United Nations agency specialized in the communications and information technology sector.
