Communications and Information Technology Commission participates in the 16th Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-16)

The Communications and Information Technology Commission participated in the activities of the 16th Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-16), held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt, during the period from 05 to 07 Sha'ban 1437H, corresponding to May 12-14, 2016, organized by the International Telecommunication Union. The Kingdom's delegation participating in these activities was headed by His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, Governor of the Commission.

The symposium addressed several topics, most importantly (empowerment and inclusion to build smart societies in a connected world), as well as the key role of communications and information technology in developmental, economic, and social sectors, as well as the topic of future technical developments and the opportunities and challenges that will accompany them, and their regulatory implications, including how to pave the way for the adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, the effects of smart societies on real life, and enhancing privacy, trust, and cybersecurity, as well as developing strategies to encourage digital entrepreneurship.

It is noted that the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-16) is considered the largest annual gathering of ICT policy specialists from the private sector, aiming to exchange views and experiences, in addition to providing a global platform for dialogue between regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders in the field of communications and information technology.
