Communications and Information Technology Commission participates as keynote speaker at Mobile World Congress 2015

The Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, His Excellency Engineer Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Darrab, participated as a keynote speaker in the Middle East and North Africa summit session, part of the ministerial program sessions at Mobile World Congress 2015, organized by the GSM Association (GSMA), and held during the period March 2-5 in the city of Barcelona, Spain.

The conference is attended by ministers, regulators, policymakers, and chief executives from around the world to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the mobile communications sector. The number of participants annually exceeds 85,000 specialists from the public and private sectors, representing more than 190 countries around the world.

In his speech, Engineer Al-Darrab reviewed the features of the reality of mobile communications services in the communications and information technology sector in the Kingdom, highlighting growth and investment opportunities in it, and noting in this context that since the expansion of the communications and information technology market in the Kingdom began, the sector has witnessed significant growth in the number of subscribers, and the spread and diversity of services, coinciding with the entry of new technologies that stimulated further developmental leaps at the economic, social, and cultural levels in the Kingdom.

It is noted that the general theme of the ministerial program in 2015 is "Catalyzing Innovation for a Fully Connected Society," which comes as an affirmation of the continued role that innovation plays in the mobile communications sector, and the policies and regulatory factors that allow and encourage innovation in mobile communications, which leads to the spread of mobile phone services and their reach to all segments of society.
