Communications and Information Technology Commission organizes workshop to support the deployment of IPv6 in the Kingdom

The Communications and Information Technology Commission organized, today Thursday, March 5, 2014, in the city of Riyadh, a workshop dedicated to the project of supporting the deployment of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) in the Kingdom, targeting a number of specialists in information technology, including managers and senior employees working in this field at a number of selected entities in the public and private sectors in the Kingdom.

The workshop covered a number of topics that focused on raising awareness of the current status of IPv4, clarifying the importance of supporting the adoption of IPv6, explaining the role of IPv6 as a permanent and sustainable future solution, in addition to clarifying the importance of beginning to plan for the adoption of IPv6, and exchanging views on the difficulties that may hinder progress toward deploying this version among the various entities concerned.

The Communications and Information Technology Commission had begun in mid-2007 to formulate a special strategy to raise the Kingdom's readiness to adopt IPv6, and to complete what the internet development project had begun by taking practical steps to promote the deployment of this version in the Kingdom, including implementing exploratory projects with a selected sample of national institutions with the aim of raising their readiness to adopt IPv6 and providing pioneering and encouraging examples for all stakeholders in the Kingdom.
