Communications and Information Technology Commission Issues First Two Licenses for Providing IoT Services Using License-Exempt Frequencies in the Kingdom

The Communications and Information Technology Commission announced the issuance of the first two licenses for providing IoT services using license-exempt frequencies in the Kingdom, to Hadeer Al-Aalat Company and Faz for Energy Development Company, with the aim of diversifying services, raising the level of competitiveness in the telecommunications and IT market, and meeting the growing demand for IoT services for individuals and businesses.

The Commission explained that the two companies obtained their licenses after fulfilling the requirements necessary to obtain licenses in accordance with the relevant regulations, confirming that this will contribute to increasing investment opportunities in the field and enhancing the digital economy, which will in turn improve quality of life and preserve the environment, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

The Commission noted that IoT services using license-exempt frequencies are aimed at enabling automated connectivity between machines and devices using license-exempt frequencies, and that these frequencies may be used on a shared basis without requiring a license from the Commission for their use.

The Commission explained that licensing companies in the field of IoT will contribute to creating numerous job opportunities for citizens in the telecommunications and IT sector, given the diversity of its applications, which are used in industry, agriculture, transport, logistics, smart homes, and other fields.

It is worth noting that, through issuing these licenses, the Commission seeks to provide a suitable environment to attract local and international investors, localize IoT services, and encourage reliance on related solutions and technologies in the Kingdom to enhance performance, productivity, flexibility, and service quality for all beneficiaries in the Kingdom.
