Communications and Information Technology Commission Issues "Internet in Saudi Arabia" Report for 2021

The Communications and Information Technology Commission has issued its

Saudi Internet Report,

which aims to activate its role as digital regulator for the telecommunications and IT sector and enhance its contribution to the growth of the digital economy, on the sidelines of the eighth Telecommunications and IT Indicators Forum, held in the main hall of the King Abdullah Financial Center in Riyadh.

The Commission explained that it issued the report given the importance of the internet and its being an integral part of the daily lives of citizens and residents in the Kingdom, as it has helped facilitate the execution of work and tasks at the level of individuals and institutions, contributed to enhancing communication, and raised the level of digital service delivery for both the public and private sectors.

The report issued by the Commission included the most important reliable figures on the internet ecosystem and its uses in the Kingdom, shedding light on the internet penetration rate in the Kingdom, in addition to users' internet patterns and behavior. The report also included a ranking of the most-used and most-downloaded internet applications in the Kingdom.

The report covered the most popular and widespread video games in the Kingdom, whether on smart devices or gaming platforms, alongside a discussion of the telecommunications and IT sector infrastructure, average mobile internet speeds and download rates across the Kingdom, in addition to Saudi domain names and their total number. The report also addressed the quality of internet service experience, including quality of application experience, social media usage experience, and video games.

It is worth noting that the annual Telecommunications and IT Indicators Forum focused its work on the digital economy, being one of the pivotal elements in shaping the future in the Kingdom and the world at large. It also addressed leading best practices and future directions for the telecommunications and IT sector through its dialogue sessions, which saw high-level attendance from ministers and senior leaders of major telecommunications and IT companies in the Kingdom, in addition to international experts and specialists in the telecommunications and IT sector.
