'Commission' Calls for Reporting Fraudulent SMS Messages Through Number (330330)
The Communications and Information Technology Commission renewed its call to all mobile telecom service users not to respond to fraudulent messages received via SMS, and to report them by forwarding them to the free number (330330).
The Commission explained that these text messages may reach users from unknown numbers, falsely claiming in their content to be affiliated with a local bank, or an investment, commercial or postal entity, informing the user that they have won a cash prize, or requesting them to update their data, or notifying them of the arrival of a postal shipment and requesting payment of amounts and financial dues.
The Commission revealed that it recorded more than (63) thousand reports of fraudulent messages during last April, submitted by users in the Kingdom via the dedicated free number (330330), affirming its full commitment to handling these reports and taking the necessary action regarding them in cooperation with service providers and relevant authorities.
The Commission also noted that it is implementing a set of proactive measures to reduce fraudulent SMS messages, by activating a smart filtering system that enables proactive blocking of these messages before they reach users.
