'Commission' Calls on Saudi Domain Name Registrants to Update Their Registration Data

The Communications and Information Technology Commission called today on all registrants of Saudi domain names to update their registration data and, in particular, the data of administrative coordinators, so that notifications and alerts reach them; in preparation for the launch of registrar agent services scheduled to be launched at the beginning of next February.

The Commission explained that applying the registrar agents model will contribute to improving registration services and providing value-added services related to domain names (such as hosting, email) through a unified platform, along with the accompanying technical and administrative support for beneficiaries, in addition to the continuous development of many products and services, and providing multiple options for the registrant by being able to choose the appropriate registrar agent; based on the services, their quality, price, and the level of technical support services provided.

The Commission also noted that all registrants -with the exception of government entities- will be required to choose one of the accredited registrar agents as soon as the registrar agent services are launched, and transfer their Saudi domain names to it, according to the procedures that will be announced at that time, which will be carried out entirely electronically, noting that current registrants will be given a grace period to complete the transition process, extending until the end of December 2021, stressing that Saudi domain names that have not completed the transition process before the end of the specified period will be canceled according to the approved procedures.

It is noted that the "Communications and Information Technology Commission's" launch of registrar agent services for Saudi domain names (ending in .sa or .السعودية) comes following an update to the Saudi domain name registration policy and the launch of the first phase for accrediting registrar agents; with the aim of developing and improving Saudi domain name registration services and applying best international practices in this field.
