'Commission' Honors Delivery Applications for Their Efforts During the Coronavirus Pandemic

The Communications and Information Technology Commission honored, today, delivery service providers via electronic applications who successfully completed the second phase of the regulatory sandbox environment, and were classified within the "intermediate and advanced" categories, for their outstanding efforts during the novel coronavirus pandemic, which culminated in the "Electronic Delivery Applications Platform" project winning the Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Information Technology Award in its twentieth edition.

During the ceremony, held under the patronage of His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, His Excellency praised the efforts of the working team and the cooperation of service providers and their level of engagement and outstanding commitment, which was a reason for the Commission's success in launching the platform during the coronavirus pandemic, and providing an innovative regulatory environment for the delivery applications sector, which contributed to protecting public health and enhancing mechanisms for compliance with preventive measures, in addition to stimulating the local economy; as the number of delivery orders during the pandemic exceeded more than 26 million orders with a total value estimated at more than SAR 2 billion, serving more than 250 cities and governorates across the Kingdom.

His Excellency the Governor concluded his remarks by noting the continuation of development and stimulation work for the electronic delivery applications sector through many programs and projects, including the launch of the regulatory sandbox environment for delivery applications, "SANDBOX," with the aim of qualifying service providers regulatorily and operationally, and supporting a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the sector's operational processes, in line with other official legislation and regulations, in an organized environment that ensures the rights of all parties, and provides an attractive investment climate characterized by vitality and sustainability.

The "Communications and Information Technology Commission" had previously launched the second phase of the "sandbox" regulatory environment project for delivery applications, with the aim of supporting and enabling delivery applications by qualifying service providers regulatorily and operationally, and governing registration procedures, as the Commission seeks, through the project, to enhance the regulation of the delivery applications sector, support a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in its operational processes, and work to align the regulations of delivery services via electronic platforms with other official legislation, in an organized environment that ensures the rights of all parties, and provides an attractive investment climate characterized by vitality and sustainability.

It is noted that the Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Information Technology Award had previously announced the Communications and Information Technology Commission's win of the award in its twentieth edition for the "Electronic Delivery Applications Platform" project, which contributed to creating many different business models, automating all services related to delivery applications, in addition to the platform's integration with government and security entities electronically to facilitate permit issuance procedures during the curfew period, which had a significant impact in reducing risks, and contributing to controlling the spread of the novel coronavirus.
