'Commission' Holds a Virtual International Symposium on Enabling Commercial and Innovative Uses of the Frequency Spectrum

The Communications and Information Technology Commission is holding, from December 8-10, 2020, a virtual international symposium in cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), titled "Enabling Commercial and Innovative Uses of the Spectrum."

This symposium comes as part of the Commission's efforts related to the National Spectrum Strategy 2025, with the aim of unifying global efforts and visions in this vital field, and activating the role of the frequency spectrum in enhancing digital transformation in the Kingdom and the world. More than (70) speakers are participating in this symposium, from senior officials and specialists from various government, private, and academic entities interested in modern wireless technologies, from (20) countries around the world.

The symposium is opened by His Excellency the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Abdullah bin Amer Al-Swaha, and the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Houlin Zhao. Also delivering keynote speeches are His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, and the Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau at the International Telecommunication Union, Mario Maniewicz, in addition to participation from the Chairman of the Board of the Gas and Electricity Markets Commission in the United Kingdom, Professor Martin Cave, the CEO of Inmarsat, Mr. Rupert Pearce, and a number of chief executives and senior officials from various government, private and academic entities from different countries around the world.

This symposium will cover pivotal topics including mobile communications, satellites, the Internet of Things and emerging technologies, and their role in enabling innovation and enhancing digital transformation.
